Another new herbicide, and it's not cheap, so we want to take a look at what this new crabgrass killer is, and will it really solve the post-emergent crabgrass problem? First of all, it does come from a leader in turf management chemicals, namely BASF Turf & Ornamentals. Many of you know of BASF from their very effective Drive 75 product. Now they've come out with Drive XLR8 herbicide, which is a brand new liquid version of Drive 75 DF.

The claim is that grassy and broadleaf weeds are going to absorb Drive XLR8 faster, which will result in becoming rainfast within 30 minutes compared with the dry stuff that can require nearly 24 hours. That means you'd be able to walk on the lawn, let the dog out into the yard, quicker. What we like about this broad-spectrum, quinclorac-based Drive XLR8 herbicide is that it is a postemergence product that controls the most prevalent weeds, including crabgass, dandelions and clovers, and can be used on most tolerant cool and warm-season grasses. This gives you all kinds of flexibility and makes it much harder to hurt your turf, and no one wants hurt turf.

So, why a liquid? Why not keep it easy for shipping, etc. and just keep the stuff dry? Well the liquid formulation of Drive XLR8 will make it easier to mix, handle and spray. You don't need a lot of this stuff, as it has a use rate of 1.5 oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. One of the keys to success with this product is that the spray coverage should be such that you cover all of your lawn/turf as evenly as possible - don't miss any spots. Plus, because of how it is designed to work, you should not mow your grass for at least two days before or after application.

If you got yourself some dry dirt, then watering will most likely help with the weed control. Drive XLR8 may be tank-mixed with other pre- and postemergent grass herbicides, along with postemergent broadleaf herbicides. 	Drive XLR8 - Easy to Use
	This stuff was easy to use and you could almost hear your crabgrass screaming. Dead in about two days. Clover and dandelions not so much, still kicking and it's been about two weeks. Not really expensive because you use very little.
